Seetec has confirmed that Pluss, a long-standing BASE member, has joined the Seetec Group.

Pluss is a Community Interest Company that supports thousands of people each year to achieve a career and fulfil their true potential. It is a prime contractor for DWP and delivers a range of contracts for various commissioners including the Work and Health Programme across 26 nationwide locations.

The Royal Borough of Kingston (the Council) proposes to provide a supported employment service for clients known to the Council, aged between 18-64, including: Learning Disabilities (LD), Homelessness, Drug and Alcohol misuse, Mental Health, LD Children and Young People in Transition This service will be delivered in the Royal Borough of Kingston.

1- 7th April 2019 is World Autism Awareness week and we're highlighting some of the resources available to support Employers make workplaces more autism-friendly.

  • The National Autistic Society has a wealth of resources to aid employers with the recruitment, training and retention of autistic staff.

The National Audit Office (NAO) has published a report 'Supporting Disabled People into Work' on how the Department for Work and Pensions supports people with a disability into work. BASE supported the NAO's work on the report and we will be commenting on the content soon.

The report is about the Department’s support to help disabled people overcome barriers to work. It examines the Department’s:

DWP is ending the Community Partner roles with Jobcentre districts. The Community Partner roles were time limited and funded for a two-year period, which comes to an end in March 2019.

The Community Partners have helped to build awareness of disability issues and worked with local employers to inform them of advice available and good practice in employing disabled people. There has not been an external evaluation of the impact of these roles.

We are delighted to announce that the 2019 BASE conference will take place at the Manchester Mercure Hotel on 5-6 November.

We are now inviting expressions of interest in presenting a workshop at the event. Workshop presenters can attend the full conference at a reduced cost. We are also able to take advance delegate bookings.

It's a very tight turnaround as bids have to be submitted by 8 April. You'll find the EOI form attached.

RNIB is sharing resources for employers looking to become Disability Confident. They are hosting a specialist thematic programme that will run from 19 - 29 March and focuses on support to people with a visual impairment.

The programme is designed to increase employers knowledge and understanding about recruiting, or retaining, blind or partially sighted people in the workplace. There is no cost to use the resources.
