The Department for Education (DfE) has today published the SEND review. The Green Paper, SEND Review - right support, right place, right time, launches a consultation that seeks responses by 1st July 2022. BASE will be seeking member views on the SEND Review proposals before submitting a response.

The review has identified 3 key challenges facing the SEND and alternative provision system:

The Department for Education (DfE) is seeking views on proposals to reform technical and academic qualifications at level 2 and below, excluding GCSEs, Functional Skills Qualifications and Essential Digital Skills Qualifications. The consultation follows the call for evidence on level 2 and below study and qualifications published on 10 November 2020 and closes on 27 April 2022.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced the launch of the new Local Supported Employment (LSE) Initiative which will deliver live provision from October 2022 to March 2025 in approximately 20 Local Authorities (LA) across England and Wales. The aim of the grant funding is to help people with autism, learning difficulties or both into work using the Supported Employment model.

BASE promoted a webinar for Supported Businesses on 17 February. The aim was to update businesses on current policy and to get feedback on the pressures that they currently face.

The West London Alliance has published its 2022 West London Guide to Supported Internships. It contains the details of 32 supported internships in London and incorporates a map in the centre pages showing their locations.

Over 450 young people with learning disabilities are now undertaking Supported Internship programmes in London every year, with an average employment achievement rate of over 60%.

Dynamic Training are running a free webinar (funded by the Education and Training Foundation) for apprenticeship training providers and supporting services. The webinar runs from noon to 1.30pm on 29 March and will discuss methods of improving reasonable adjustments to the apprenticeship journey and promoting inclusivity. Everyone is welcome to join.
