The New Local Government Network (NLGN) has published a document about use of the social value within procurement. The report is based on a workshop held in Birmingham in December 2016, with attendees from local authorities and the private sector. It looks at the background to including social value in procurement processes, as well as how its aims can best be achieved in practice.

Disabled people are to be offered internships in the Scottish Government as it seeks to lead by example. The internship programme starts in September and forms part of 120 places offered in the public, voluntary and charity sectors. The Scottish disability employment rate at 40.9% compared with a non-disabled employment rate of 81.5%. The Scottish Government has a long-term aim of halving this gap and Social Security Minister Jeane Freeman said the Scottish Government and public sector had to "lead by example" in helping support disabled people into work.

NHS England is conducting an audit of organisations providing employment support for people using secondary mental health services. The audit will establish a baseline position prior to NHS England inviting bids for targeted investment in the expansion of IPS (Individual Placement and Support) provision later this year.
