Learning disability employment policy in England was led by the Valuing Employment Now (VEN) Team until it was disbanded in April 2010. Employment policy is now led by the Valuing People Now team. Only 6.4% of people with a significant disability are in paid employment in England (2010). Valuing Employment Now was published in June 2009 and is the main cross-Government policy document for England.

IPPR has published a report Plans that Work: Employment outcomes for people with learning disabilities looking at how additional support that is provided to children and young people with learning disabilities helps them properly prepare for adulthood, and considers how it might have to change to better achieve this.

This short paper, from the IPPR  considers whether the additional support that is provided to children and young people with learning disabilities helps them properly prepare for adulthood, and considers how it might have to change to better achieve this.

A new plan has been launched to help support people with learning disabilities.

There are 26,349 people with learning disabilities in Scotland with only 7%  employed and 6.2% in further education.

The Keys to Life framework, launched by the Scottish Government and council umbrella body Cosla, sets out plans to inform more employers about available help, such as a job coach or supported employment.

Mencap would like to invite people with a learning disability to take part in the first national survey of people with a learning disability in 15 years!

The survey is the chance for people with a learning disability to share their experiences. It was fully co-produced by people with a learning disability, and asks questions on topics they say are important to them, including health, relationships, employment and inclusion.
