Mencap has published a guide for employers outling the business case for employing people with a learning disability.The guide is based on a literature review by Dr Steve Beyer.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has published its report into Local Support for People with a Learning Disability  There are an estimated 930,000 adults with a learning disability in England, 129,000 of whom receive local authority social care support. There are approximately 2,500 people with a learning disability who are living in mental health hospitals.

Rob Grieg, Chief Executive of the National Development Team for Inclusion, has written a blog for the Guardian about Rosa Monckton's proposal that people with a learning disability might be paid at less than the national minimum wage. We fully support his views which are reproduced below.

 

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have launched an expression of interest exercise for local authorities to jointly deliver a Local Supported Employment proof of concept.  Expressions of interest should be submitted by 27 March 2017.
