Disability Action Yorkshire

We provide training across many different areas, including employment and personal & social development

We deliver a wide range of programmes, qualifications and training, bespoke to the individual. We are also ASDAN and NCFE accredited which is an awarding body, offering qualifications that explicitly grow skills for learning, life and employment.

We believe that everyone has the right to work and know that gaining paid employment can be difficult for some disabled people. Our Training Service offers development in all of the skills required to gain paid employment or life skills.

We don’t just leave a person after the training programme – we can continue to provide support in achieving aspirations whether that be in the workplace or life in general. Even when people feel they no longer need our support we are still here for them.

We offer an individual and personalised package of training to help people enter employment

Every person that comes through our doors is different, and we see people with a whole host of job aspirations.

We start with finding out what people want to do for a job and then identify what training and support is needed, and from there we devise a personalised package of training. The length of time it takes to complete the training is 12 months, although it can be slightly less or more in some cases.

Some of the Job Coaching skills we offer are:

  • Help with searching for jobs
  • Support with CV writing and application forms
  • Coaching and training on interview skills, and other skills that will support finding paid employment
  • Travel training
  • Work placements with a variety of external settings
  • Support in the work place

Training

Our training courses are enhanced with real time work experience

  • Our work-based training enables all disabled young people and adults of working age to gain the skills and experience needed for employment.
  • Our training courses take place at Hornbeam Park and are enhanced with real time work experience.
  • Work based training combines academic and technical skills taught with actual work experience, provided by one of our business partners in the local area. This type of training is designed to bridge the gap between learning and doing, whilst providing a crucial start to their career.
  • Our Supported Internship program can provide benefits to both learner and employer. This is heavily supported by our team of job coaches, who provide support both on and offsite of the employer’s premises. We also provide the option of onsite support for people who are currently in the workplace but may need that extra support. Either job coaching to provide assistance with learning the job role in a tailored way, or physical support to help with any physical disability. We can provide a tailored and bespoke package to anyone with a physical or learning disability. In addition to this, we can also provide free disability awareness training to any employer through our Think Access campaign.
