The TUC has published a report looking at the disability pay gap. The current disability pay gap for all employees stands at 15.5%. This pay gap means that disabled people effectively work for free for the last 57 days (or 8 weeks) of the year and stop getting paid today.

The analysis also found that disabled workers earn on average £1.65 per hour less than non-disabled workers, which is a gap of around £3,000 per year based on a 35-hour week.

The Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has published its new strategic plan for 2019-2022 and a business plan for the current year.

A new Wildgoose workplace survey has shown that over 50 percent of UK employees surveyed feel disability inclusion is most important inclusion issue that should be tackled in their workplace.

62% of discriminatory queries at The Equality Advisory Support Service (EASS) are about disability and the Wildgoose survey demonstrates that employers are not doing enough to be inclusive to those with a disability.

Procuring for Good - a new report published by Social Enterprise UK paints the most comprehensive picture yet about how councils in England are using the Public Services (Social Value) Act. Findings from Freedom of Information requests [1] sent to all local authorities in England show that more councils than ever are considering social value when commissioning services: 1 in 3 (33%) now routinely consider social value in their procurement and commissioning, and 1 in 4 (24%) have a social value policy.

The document Closing the Gap: Priorities for Essential Change in Mental Health outlines 25 areas for health and care services to take action which will make a difference to the lives of people with mental health conditions. These changes will mean that the system is fairer for people with mental health problems. The document aims to encourage the NHS to take mental health as seriously and treat it as importantly as physical health.

This guide has been produced to help all those involved understand how things will need to be done differently to make personalisation a reality for people with mental health needs. This is a whole system guide, so hopefully it will give some information, guidance and signposts for people, whoever and wherever they are. The guide provides information about what personalisation means for mental health services and supports, offers examples of what needs to be in place to make things work, and provides pointers to good practice and sources of advice and information.
