The Castle School

The Castle School is located in Donnington village in Newbury and takes pupils from West Berkshire as well as Wiltshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire. We are a very welcoming and open school with caring and highly skilled staff who are committed to supporting the education of all our young people. We pride ourselves on our warm, caring and supportive atmosphere; a place where young people can flourish, learn, enjoy and be happy. We value and encourage support of parents, professionals and friends.

We cater for young people with a variety of complex learning difficulties from the ages of 3 to 19 years of age who have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP). We are based on three sites; The Nursery Unit which is co-located with Victoria Park Nursery in Newbury; The main primary and secondary school at Love Lane; The Post-16 Centre based at Newbury College Campus.

At The Castle School we believe that all young people deserve all the opportunities afforded to everyone. We believe that all young people should be given the right skills to enable them to participate in their local community and beyond. We believe that all young people should be able to have a successful and fulfilling life in paid employment.

Brookfields School

Through our innovative and highly regarded ‘Pathway to Employment’, the established partnerships we have with independent providers Careers Education providers as well as local businesses, we have achieved some significant outcomes for young people with learning difficulties and additional needs, enabling them to secure full time paid employment.

Through the schools Person Centred approach to planning, pupils are able to articulate their dreams and aspirations for their futures and adult life. For some pupils, their clear aspiration is to enter the world of work. To support this goal, we have created a unique Pathway to Employment.

Our Pathway consists of 5 distinct but related strands:

• Way2Work (Careers at Every Level) Careers Education lesson
• Work Related Learning
• Business Enterprise programmes
• Work Based Experience
• Project SEARCH

All strands increase the the possibility and probability of paid employment. By engaging with over 40 small, medium and large businesses through our ‘Brookfields Business Advisory Group’, families and HR departments, the young people at Brookfields School have a real chance of achieving their dreams of paid work.
