Newcastle Supported Employment

Newcastle City Council’s Supported Employment Service can help people aged between 16 and 65 years old who have a physical or sensory disability, learning disability, mental health concern or autism find and remain in sustainable employment. Staff from the Supported Employment Service will work with individuals to help identify suitable career goals and the steps needed to achieve these goals. This helps Supported Employment Officers to carefully match the needs of an employer to a person’s skills and aspirations.

The Supported Employment Service can arrange training, work experience and work trials. Staff will also support people to boost their employability skills, build confidence and help with welfare benefits. When working with the Supported Employment Service people will have a named contact who will provide ongoing support, this can include up to 6 months post-employment support.

The Supported Employment Service can also help residents to:

  • Develop a CV
  • Search for jobs online
  • Prepare for job interviews through individual coaching sessions or group workshops
  • Complete and gain trade specific qualifications, such as food hygiene and some grounds maintenance qualifications
  • Access English, Maths or IT skills training / qualifications

Staff can also provide in work and post-employment support to help people remain in work.
