The Role:

As a SEND Employment Adviser (EA) in our industry-leading Supported Employment service, you can make your own powerful contribution by changing the current employment prospects of people with disabilities – and in the process, you will transform lives. These young people have a broad range of learning disabilities, physical disabilities and sensory impairments, and we work with those with complex needs and behaviours that challenge. The concept of employment can seem unattainable to many of these teenagers, but with your support, you will bring students and employers together to challenge preconceptions and start healthy discussions on the value they can bring to the workplace. With an overall focus on creating employment outcomes that will benefit our residents, you will help young people access meaningful paid work, thereby increasing their independence and autonomy.

This high-performing service is a vital part of our commitment to supporting inclusive and diverse work opportunities for everyone within our community. As a member of this exceptional team, you will therefore help us reduce barriers to work by supporting young people in schools from Year 9 onwards. Devising SMART action plans that will enable young people to explore the many paths that could be open to them, you will work with SEN schools to deliver creative career activities and enhance their approach to helping young people secure sustainable employment. Encouraging schools to develop person-centred employment plans for every student, you will help them develop relationships with local employers in order to secure multiple opportunities for workplace encounters and work experience placements, and you will provide job coaching where required.

You will also support employers in creating the best possible work practices and environments that will bring out the best in SEN students, including guiding them on providing training and in-work support once these former students join their businesses.
