Self-employment in the UK in the last 15 years has increased as a share of employment following a period of stable or falling self-employment. Since 2008, self-employment has accounted for almost a third of total employment growth. However, while self-employment in the UK, at 15%, is close to the European average, self-employment in many other countries has continued to decline.

This CIPD report, Megatrends: More selfies? A picture of self-employment in the UK, explores the potential reasons and the implications for the economy and the self-employed.

Currently, fewer than 6% of people with learning disabilities are in paid work. We know this figure represents a drop from previous years.

We know that people with learning disabilities can and do make hard working and enthusiastic employees, bringing new skills, talents and perspectives to their employers.  We also know that when we give good quality support to people interested in work we can match their skills, interests and aspirations to the needs of local employers and get good outcomes.
