This toolkit has been produced by neurodivergent members of GMB staff in consultation with neurodivergent GMB members.

The aim of this document is to provide information and advice that can be used to help make workplaces more inclusive for neurodivergent workers.

For reasons of length, it does not contain a detailed introduction to individual neurodivergent conditions. Separate guidance notes are being produced (although the difficulties of generalising about neurodiversity should be stressed at all points).

This paper was published in the Journal of Mental Health Training, Education and Practice and was co-authored by Mark Bertram of SLAM Mental Health NHS Trust.

The purpose of this paper is to explore what helped seven people in contact with secondary mental health services achieve their vocational goals, such as: employment, education, training and volunteering.

The authors used the practice of co-operative inquiry – staff and peer supporters co-designed an evaluation of vocational and peer support work with service users.

Disability Rights UK has published a new guide for disabled people, parents and key advisers about applying for apprenticeships in England. Into Apprenticeships deals with common questions such as how to find an apprenticeship, whether the training will be accessible and what support is available in the workplace. There are several inspiring stories written by disabled apprentices about their own experiences and the challenges they have faced. The guide also contains a useful resources section listing further websites, publications and organisations which can help.

Mental health is key to everyone’s well-being. It affects our relationships, our work and our overall happiness. But at any one time, one in six people are suffering from mental health problems. This costs society £67bn every year—as much as the government has recently spent bailing out UK banks.
