DWP engagement on future employment programmes

DWP has been holding market engagement events about two new proposed programmes and slides/notes are attached below for each of them.

Kickstart will run from November and is aimed at 16 to 24-year olds who are unemplooyed and in receipt of welfare benefits. It may go wider in the future. It will fund up to 25 hrs/wk wages at the National Minimum Wage for participants. Customers must be assessed as "work ready" by Jobcentre Plus work coaches and not needing support to perform well at interview. There must be a good fit with the job and opportunities must not displace other jobs. The scheme will use intermediary organisations to support the recruitment with targeted wrap-around support where needed.

DWP has also engaged on a potential programme for the recently unemployed. They anticipate volumes of 15,000 per month for a digital support programme delivered using telephone and video conferencing. Support will include a mock interview, a digital online group session, help to identify their transferable skills, sector specific job advice, and job matching to suitable vacancies and advice/links about suitable employers. It is anticipated that the support will be a month in duration.
