The Model

With the right support, people who want to work can find the right job and flourish in it.

Supported Employment is an evidence-based approach used successfully for decades to support disabled people, particularly people with a Learning Disability and/or Autism, into paid mainstream employment.

It focuses on practical support in real workplaces, built around partnership between the person looking for work, the employer, and the Job Coach.

Five Stage Supported Employment Model

What are the 5 stages of the Supported Employment Model

Supported Employment ensures that people are supported into good quality careers whilst also meeting the workforce development needs of business. It's sometimes referred to as the “Place, Train and Maintain " model

  1. Stage 1

    Engagement

    Proactive conversations with individuals, communities and organisations to inspire and encourage disabled/neurodivergent/ disadvantaged people to think of and believe work and a career is possible.

  2. Stage 2

    Vocational Profiling

    A strength-based approach which focuses on finding out about the person’s skills, interests, aspirations and support needs through conversation and observation to build an ever-evolving rich profile

  3. Stage 3

    Employer Engagement

    Employers’ business requirements are equally important, through conversations and by completing a Job Analysis, you will build of knowledge-map of their business needs.

  4. Stage 4

    Job Matching

    Used in combination the Vocational Profile and Job Analysis matches the right person into the right role, carefully balancing the needs of the individual and the employer.

  5. Stage 5

    In-work Support & Career Progression

    Focuses on providing personalised support to enable individuals to learn every aspect of their job whilst in work and supporting the employer’s disability confidence and in time, career progression.
