Manchester 2009: Working for Inclusion

Manchester Metropolitan University 10-11 September 2009

This year's BASE conference takes place at Manchester's Metropolitan University.

The conference, entitled "Working for Inclusion", focuses on supporting those most excluded from the labour market. Only 10% of people with a learning disability or long term mental health needs are in paid employment. The conference will look at policy initiatives and best practice to improve these employment rates. This includes the potential impact of individualised budgets, public service agreements and the new employment strategies for learning disability, autism and mental health.

Over the two days, delegates will hear from key speakers and participate in a range of workshops. In addition, a full programme of workshops and an exhibition area will inform and involve delegates in discussing best practice within supported employment.

Conference brochure and booking form

On behalf of Manchester and the North West, we invite you to join us for this event. Manchester has a rich history of innovation and radical ideas. It is renowned as a premier destination with a vibrant nightlife and a warm and friendly welcome. Capacity is limited to 250 delegates and early booking is strongly advised. We are again able to offer exceptional value for money with a discounted delegate price for BASE members. We have teamed up with the Visit Manchester to offer an accommodation service that includes access to high quality campus accommodation at budget rates.

We are arranging a formal conference dinner for delegates at Manchester's Midland Hotel on the evening of 10 September. This will allow valuable networking opportunities and we would encourage delegates to attend this prestigious event. These pages offer a range of information regarding the conference and will be regularly updated as the conference programme is confirmed. We expect the programme to be finalised in late Spring and are now seeking expressions of interest from potential workshop presenters. Specific queries can be directed to our Secretariat.
